Take your young children to the library

I was worried in the beginning that taking my young children to the library would result in lots of annoyed people trying to read or do work, you know. Since kids really can't keep quiet.

But the good thing is that Public libraries usually have a childrens section meant just for them. Apart from the rest of the library where kids are allowed the wiggle room of being a little bit loud (but they still have to be mostly quiet).

My kids do well enough. They go play with other kids and or the puzzles put out by the library staff. They're generally quiet. When you have young kids you don't go to the library to read to them... usually.

You really just go to have a small area where you can release your kids and you can actually sit and watch them. Or. If you're feeling like playing with them, you can do that, too. But the important thing is that you get a semi break as a parent. Or a teaching moment. Depending on what you came for that day.

Having children is a full time job. They have to be constantly watched, they have to be entertained or they figure out how to entertain themselves.

The hardest part is making sure that what they're doing to entertain themselves is appropriate and not destroying your house.

Public libraries have appropriate toys and puzzles, and the novelty means that they'll actually use them.

Unfortunately. My public library also has tablets put out for the kids. But I don't allow my kids to personally use them. I don't think it's appropriate, but I do see other parents who do think so.

But you're raising little humans. And little humans need to know how the world works. And the library is a good place to start because you get lots of organic interactions.

You've got a small section outside of your home where you can teach your kids to mostly be quiet because, most parents at the library are also modeling this expected behavior to their children and reminding their kids to be quiet as well. And, kids learn by what other kids are doing.

So yes. Go to the library. Have some fun, take your kids. Let them run around and play (mostly quietly) and learn.
